The Archetype of Sagittarius, Jupiter and the 9th House

The archetype of Sagittarius, Jupiter and the 9th House and to be inclusive, the waxing trine, are about going far, spreading the details involved as far as possible. Sagittarius is buoyant, optimistic and has the intuitive understanding that there is a vision to be realized, a potential to be achieved and gives the gift of this believing.

Sagittarius is a mutable fire sign. The progression of the Fire Signs shows that in Aries we have the emotional response to powerlessness and feels the uprising of energy to begin something new. In Leo we see the need to create, the form is possible and in Sagittarius there is fruition that allows this to be spread beyond the immediate environment. Even though we cannot see them we know there is a wider audience we can reach. Mutability is the spreading of the idea. Here we have several applications of this sign: missionary work and teaching. These both have much to do with Sagittarius.

Sagittarius

The symbol of Sagittarius is an archer with the upper body of a man and the lower half of a horse. This has several meanings. This represents the intuited knowledge that even though the target is not seen, there is potential for realization of the arrow finding the target. It also represents the fusion of human and animal, the need for the understanding there must be a fusion of the higher minded vision and inspiration of humanity with nature, we must be aligned with what is natural. If we are to realize our potential as humans we must not forsake nature.

Nature and freedom is a large part of the makeup of these folks and many find their voice in the natural world. These types are utterly true to themselves and this can both be a boon and a curse. We can see this in the charts of those who have a large gift to give and so are true to themselves in spite of others who would try to change them. We can also see the reverse, those who have become attached to a path that is not so healthy and will continue in this way in spite of everything.

Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter, and this gives further clarity of this archetype. Ask yourself where can I go far in this incarnation? By looking to this archetype in the Natal Chart this question can be answered.

There is always the negative expression and with Sagittarius it is about this very issue extremism, intolerance and mania. With Sag we are so full of our own grandeur it can be taken too far. We have the potential of obesity, too much of a good thing. There is the potential for intolerance and even persecution. We think our way the only way and will stop at nothing to convince others of this, our truth. It is seeing your truth as the whole truth; these are the pitfalls of this archetype.
